Requests to Members Who Have Been Penalized for Harassment

The Japan Sociological Society (JSS) has established a Code of Ethics for the purpose of promoting free and fair research and educational activities among its members. In accordance with this purpose, the Board and the Ethics Committee have decided to ask members who have been penalized for harassment at their affiliated institutions to withdraw from academic activities and roles to the following extent. Considering that young members, such as graduate students, tend to be the victims of harassment, this measure is to ensure that members’ opportunities to participate in academic activities are not impaired.

Extent

JSS board member, committee member, and conference-related roles requested by the JSS

  • Board member or auditor
  • Member of any committee involved in JSS activities
  • Speaker at a conference symposium
  • Moderator of a conference group session or presenter at a group session requested by the JSS
  • Duration

As a general rule, the above are requested to withdraw for three years starting at the time of the Board’s decision.

    Enacted July 13, 2008
    Revised December 17, 2011
