Rules of the award
Purpose
The award is granted to the best paper authored by one or more graduate student(s) and submitted to the competition. It is intended to provide motivation and recognition to a promising young scholar in the field of rational choice theory, as well as to encourage growing graduate student interest and participation in the International Sociological Association and Research Committee on Rational Choice.
Recognition
The recipient of the award will receive an award of € 500 at the awarding ceremony of RC45 during the ISA World Congress of Sociology in Toronto, July 2018.
Eligibility
The candidate(s) must be registered for a graduate degree at a degree granting institution at the time of submission of the paper. He/she (or they) must hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent), but cannot hold a Ph.D. at the time of submission of the paper. Papers can only be authored by one or more graduate students; those co-authored with faculty members at a degree granting institution are not eligible. The recipient of the award must be a member of the ISA and RC45.
Selection Process
The RC45 Board Members will form an Award Committee, evaluate submitted papers, and select the best paper. To avoid potential conflicts of interest, members of the Award Committee must disclose any substantial personal or professional ties with submitters (e.g., as supervisor or committee member of the author’s or authors’ paper, editor of the journal or volume where the paper has been accepted for publication, etc.) to the other members of the Committee.
Submissions and Deadlines
Applicants for the award must indicate his/her (or their) intention when he/she (or they) submit the paper by February 28, 2018, to Antonio M. Chiesi, President of RC45, at antonio.chiesi@unimi.it
